The Skill Trade Sheet

A Tool To Learn With Your Homies

In the name of Feb & upcoming pisces season, I’ve been thinking a lot about love. How I show up to love in communal spaces. How we share knowledge and resources in communal spaces.

I believe in building, creating, and learning with my homies. I want to build my own tables, to create structures that are for us, by us. In that, I’ve been thinking about communal learning & resource sharing. So I designed a simple tool for trading resources.

Our radical imagination is a tool for decolonization, for reclaiming our right to shape our lived reality.

— Adrienne Maree Brown

This Skill Trade Sheet is designed to be used on Instagram. You can view “Skill Trade” story highlight on IG to see how I use the tool. Use it to trade offerings, learn skills, & create with your community members.

Where finances, structural violence, etc. keep us from access, exchanging offerings can be an accessible way to learn, create, & build.

I designed this simple tool that can be used in multiple ways, but the big ones to note are:

  • Encouraging learning in a communal sense

  • Celebrating collaboration

  • Finding new people to create with and learn from

  • Underscoring that each of us should be compensated for our labour, and that compensation doesn’t always have to look monetary. For many, finances are a huge barrier to accessing creative resources. I believe trading skills can be a hugely helpful way to share knowledge/offerings/services while providing a form of compensation.

Where finances, structural violence, etc. keep us from access, exchanging offerings can be an accessible way to learn, create, & build.

In Pleasure Activism, Adrienne Maree Brown writes, “Our radical imagination is a tool for decolonization, for reclaiming our right to shape our lived reality.” I believe a way to tap into radical imagination is learning, creating & building with our homies. This tool is meant to engage in these communal forms of care & learning.
